I am 60! Does that define me? To a certain degree ... Yes. I am a "Jill of all trades" & have worked every type of job from store clerk to school bus driver, from ski lift operator to life gaurd, PBX operator to Administrative Assistant, Nanny for newborns to legal assistant. The majority of my working career has been spent being "self-unemployed", a term my kids dad made up to describe me. I wanted a life with a career on the side. I supported myself & family since 1981 - 2005 as a certified Massage Therapist. I worked at health clubs & spas all around the country. When I needed extra work, I would simply apply for a job that appealed to me. I would explain that I'm a hard worker & I'm ready to start working ASAP. I was rarely turned down. I took a course by correspondence in 1994, & became a computer repair technician, which went very well with my massage career. I always had work & I loved helping people & make well people feel better. I continued doing computer repair until 2015.
I began swimming in competition at age 6 and did so until I was 23. At age 17, I read a book about the life of Arnold Schwarzenegger & I suddenly wanted to see my muscles. In the 1970s, female swimmers did not have much of a physique to speak of. Diet and exercise technique has changed that & now female swimmers appear more muscular. Women's bodybuilding was just taking off in the United States at that time. I began lifting weights which definitely interfered with my swimming. Fat floats and muscle sinks. That did not deter me. I continued to lift weights until 1994, when I had my first child, a daughter, Stevie. I was 35. That is considered late, & risk and complication are possible. My son Montana, was born in 1997 @27 weeks. He was 1221 g. My life changed dramatically at that time. I was living in Whitefish Montana since 1992. The entrepreneur side of me saw a need for a taxi company. I started the Whitefish Taxi & operated it from 1996 til the fall of 2000. I separated from my husband & moved back to the desert in Palm Springs California, where I'd said I would never live again, for my mom to help me. I continued swimming & lifting weights, more as a hobby to stay fit & healthy than anything else. One thing I want to mention here is that during the 70s and 80s and even 90s, of all the books I read about sports and athletics, I never noticed anything about body parts wearing out from repetition, (I try to never "assume"). I was convinced that I would be one of those seniors, who in my '70s, would climb Mount Everest with an oxygen tank on my back. I probably could have done more research. I was from the school of "play now pay later". From 2012 to 2018, I developed severe arthritis. I had a full left hip replacement, both shoulders replaced, the bones in my left wrist fused, cervical vertebrae in my neck fused, & a lot of arthritis in my feet & various places where there are joints. June of 2017, I went on the ketogenic diet, I've lost 75 pounds to date. It has become a lifestyle, I enjoy it. I eat 35 carbs a day and continue to lose weight slowly & steadily.
I was raised in a Christian home. There was a flaw in my understanding of Salvation. I didn't get the part about the "Good News" . I thought I had to be good & at 18, I thought I wasn't going to heaven. "This is it" so I better live my best life now. I proceeded to do so with gusto. God never left my side but I had many lessons to learn.
At age 60, I am truly free & have an incredible relationship with Jesus, the only begotten Son and our heavenly Father, God almighty. The spirit of God & Christ now & forever lead me. My life has never been easy because I often want to understand how & why. It annoys people.
Ever since the internet came out, I spend hours researching subjects from nutrition, diet Health & Fitness, to learning about our Creator & the purpose for my life. In conclusion, I want to say God is good, "All the time"!
